Summer Travel Tips to Stay Pain-Free on the Road
School is out, temperatures are rising, and it is the season for adventure and road trips. The excitement of these excursions doesn’t have to bring aches, pains, and discomfort, though. Enjoy your summer and stay pain free on the road with these travel tips.
Use Lumbar Support
Support your low back during long rides by placing a small pillow or rolled up blanket between your lower back and the seat. To further benefit, maintain good posture during the drive!
Adjust Your Seat
Position your seat so your feet are flat on the floor, knees at a 90–degree angle, and you’re aligned with the steering wheel, if driving. Keep your head up and shoulders back, avoiding slouching.
Take Breaks and Stretch Often
We know it’s often a race to get from point A to point B, but you can maximize your comfort while in the car by taking frequent breaks to get out and stretch. Simple stretches, like neck rolls and shoulder shrugs, help keep your spine flexible and comfortable.
Stay Hydrated & Enjoy Nutritious Foods
Drink plenty of water and bring healthy snacks to stay hydrated and nourished during your road trip. Dehydration and poor nutrition can worsen your musculoskeletal symptoms. Avoid sugary drinks, caffeine, and alcohol, which can dehydrate you.
Pack Light
Avoid lifting injuries by packing your bags and totes at reasonable weights, and utilize wheeled luggage options when available. Make smaller trips versus carrying all of the heavy bags to and from the car at once.
Schedule a Chiropractic Adjustment
Schedule an appointment with Dr. Isaiah before the road trip to equip your spine to handle the journey and maximize comfort, followed by an appointment following the trip to improve alignment after those long hours in the car. Dr. Isaiah can demonstrate ideal stretches to improve mobility and prepare you for a successful road trip.
We wish you an enjoyable summer of excitement, adventure, and comfortability!
